We wake up to another gorgeous morning in Mexico City this morning. After breakfast we decide to head to the the huge park in the centre of the city where there are also a number of museums too.
We head out past the Angel of Independence statue which is right next to our hotel and walk down Paseo de la Reforma towards the park.
It's a big wide leafy road running through the city and today has an Eco market on today selling all things envirowmtal ku friendly. It's a pretty good market with all the stalls made out of old pallets.
There is lots going on on addition to the market too including bands, games etc. When walking down this road Nat got accosted by three teenage girls who wanted to interview her for ther English exam. Apparently they had to film themselves having a conversation with someone in English and us gringos who stand out like a sore thumb fit the bill perfectly.
Big four bingo is back. Only spotted Deloitte today though. No sign of the others.
We have a lovely walk through the park which is a hive of activity today as it is Saturday. It is full of market stalls and street performers including one who absolutely hammered me in Spanish as I couldn't understand him. The whole crowd was laughing at me and I continued to be the butt of his jokes throughout his show. No idea what he was saying but everyone seemed to love it.
A cactus garden.
This must be the best Starbucks in the world. Such an amazing space with trees growing in it. It was like a top class hotel and so unusual. More Starbucks should be like this.
We then head to the Museum of Anthropology to learn about how people and societies have developed over time with a particular focus on Mexico.
This is Lucy. What a hottie.
The main exhibit in the museum is the famous stone of the sun which is a large monolithic sculpture that was used as a calendar that was excavated in the Zocalo (the main square) in 1790. It was discovered while the catherdal was being repaired and at 12 feet in diameter and weighing 24 tons it is a beast.
We soon get a bit bored of seeing lots of old rocks and skeletons and head to Polanco which is like the Beverley Hills of Mexico. We head to Parque Lincoln which is a gorgeous park surrounded by amazing restaurants and bars.
The area is certainly where the roch and glamourous live. We no longer play count the dog poo here as in BA - it's more count the top of the range SUVs and Chanel hand bags.
We have a drink at a chic restaurant called Ivoire
Then a light bite to eat at the very cool Malamen.
Lovely decor in this place and the Mexican food was even better.
Parque Lincoln.
We then get the metro back having been ripped off by a taxi on the way here. I'm glad we did as the Auditorium metro station was one of the best Metro stations I have been in - not because of how nice it is but more because of the exhibitions they had on show there in the long tunnel leading to the station. They had a billboard of every major underground network across the world which included the map, pictures and all the facts and figures about them. Really cool. Of course London was number one...
And to top it all off they had an amazing mural of music just before you get on the escalators. This tube station is well worth a visit.
That evening we decided to go out in Condessa which is another of the cool areas to go out in. The are some cracking bars and restaurants around here including the social below.
We then go across the road for dinner at a restaurant called Azul which was nice but not amazing. It is supposed to be a real foodie place with a guest chef bit I think we ordered quite poorly. I found out that I don't like black mole sauce very much which is a local speciality. They caked my dinner in this stuff ruining my enchaladas. Oh well. Two bad meals out kf the hundred we have had is not bad.
After dinner we head back for an earlyish night as we want to be fresh for VEGAS TOMORROW!!! Bring it on.
Wow......what a fabulous day! Deloitte seems to be winning in the bingo...??!! Can imagine that the American girls did really well in their aural Englush exam, after chatting to Spratty- they chose a lovely chatty person, well used to conversing slowly and clearly with Greek rels over the years!! Polanco looked wondrous!!! V jealous about the Mexican food in Malamen.....but what a shame about Azul's black mole sauce....?? You were a trooper to even try that, Aaron! Well...Mexico City has been an eye opener....so different to the perception that we have of it...it's absolutely beautiful!! Love and kisses Beanies xxxxxxxxx
