Day 107 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Definitely needed a lie in this morning. We decide to meet at 11:30 for breakfast as luckily during the carnival the hotel breakfast is on till midday.

After breakfast we head back to Copacabana to chill on the beach. The weather is absolutely glorious today. Hardly a cloud in the sky.

The aftermath of a big night.

I reckon this tanker must be brining more beer. This city must go through a phenomenal amount of beer during carnival.

Getting back from the beach was a nightmare. It was the longest taxi ride home ever taking us just under two hours to make the journey back from Copacabana to the hotel, a journey that usually took about 20 mins. Basically the carnival had spilled over onto one of the main roads blocking all the traffic.

After a quick turn around in the hotel we decided to walk into Lapa again to a restaurant recommended in the Wallpaper Guide - Rio Scenarium on Rua do Lavradio. It was a 25 min walk but none of us fancied braving a taxi again in this traffic. Plus we brought a can of beer on the way. Happy days.

The streets again looked like the aftermath of Armageddon. So much litter around. They had calmed down a bit around here now but there was still a lit of people around and the odd band playing the drums dotted around.

We reach Rua do Lavaradio and it turns out to be a really lively little street. Unfortunately the queue for the restaurant we wanted to go to must have had about 150 people in it so we decided to go elsewhere.

We found a great little restaurant called Casa Momus across the road.

We stay around this area for the rest of the evening and go for a beer next door after dinner. We are absolutely amazed by the queue for the restaurant we tried to get into - it had now doubled in length and was around the block. Crazy!

We grab a can for the walk home and get back around 1am. Sadly it is time to move on from Rio tomorrow. We have had such a great time in this wonderful and vibrant city. It had certainly exceeded my expectations and surprised me in a good way. Definitely definitely a place we will return to. Carnival 2015 anyone???
