We have another leisurely breakfast this morning which is well needed as me and Nat in particular are very hung over after last night. Heavy booze tackling liters of Quilmes at a time followed by lots of vino tinto. We can't quite believe that we will be leaving for home a month today. Last month and it's starting to get a bit sad which is strange as we still have a whole month left to go!
The plan today is to head to the Microcentre around Plaza de Mayo. More culprits of the dog poo problem outside our hotel.
We jump in a cab to head across town and it is literally like we have got a taxi to New York. The streets are so similar particularly with the one way systems, wide avenues, bill board advertising and tall buildings.
The Argentinian national bank. There are a lot of people inside here with their work cut out trying to control inflation in Argentina which is officially a whopping 25% per year (or more officially 10%). Crazy.
Plaza de Mayor is a bit like parliament square with loads of protesters camping out to protest against various causes that we couldn't really make out what they were. Handily for them their is a fountain in the middle of the square that they were all showering in.
At the bottom of the square is Casa Rosada which is the main presidential building of Argentina and has the famous balcony where Eva Peron used to stand and deliver her speeches at to hundreds of thousands of people.
The famous balcony.
Now I'm not a religious type but I'm pretty sure that you aren't supposed to point these bad boys at the pope. Fair play to old Popey though. Looks like he is going in for a grab. #copafeel
After a walk around the area we decide to head back to the hotel to chill out at the roof pool and try to recover from our hang overs and tiredness.
The outside of our lovely hotel.
After a nice few hours down time in what has been a pretty jam packed few weeks we head to La Cabrera for dinner this evening which is a famous restaurant (albeit a bit touristy) that specialises in whopping great bife de chorizo (Sirloin steak). We have a drink at Chez Juanito next door before dinner which was a great little bar and one of those where you could spend hours looking at all the pictures and memorabilia on the walls.
After a beer we head next door for a great dinner. Luckily for Mum she gets to drink champagne as they have very limited white wine options that are not Chardonnay in Argentina.
My monster steak. 400g of delicious sirloin. I did bottle ordering the 800g though as I don't think we would have had enough table space for it.
Nat finding gigantes in the selection of vegetables that give us (something she always has in Greece).
After dinner we walk around the corner and find a nice little bar for a few more drinks. Palermo is such a great area with some much choice for restaurants and bars. Literally every cross road is packed full of them on every corner.
Nige's new look. Suits him.
We get back to the hotel at about 1am definitely ready for that huge comfortable bed.
Natty, I bet the Argentinian "GIGANTES"weren't as good as......Peggy's in Athens!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnother re-union tonight in Aghia Paraskevi, with Spiros & Jenny, Jo & Notis without my Beauty. Looking forward to see all the ...visitors to South America, the day after tomorrow, in Heathrow's "Terminal 5"
