Day 108 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Iguazu Falls, Argentina

Time to move on from the wonderful Rio today and head to Iguazu Falls. Our flight is 10:10 and only a domestic so we leave at 8:15 but we have to go the very long way round to the airport due to the carnival, heading almost as far as Copacabana. The added bonus was that we get some final great views of Christ the Redeemer.

And Sugar Loaf covered in cloud.

Now as Mum made a certain delivery for Nat from Heathrow she is in heaven - finally getting her hands on the new Porter magazine. I am also pleased that we no longer have to look in every newsagent we pass searching for it.

We do a full loop of Rio after take off which gave us one of the best views over a city that I have seen on take off. We would have struggled to get a better view if we had paid for a helicopter ride.

Great views of Copacabana.

And Ipanema.

We arrive at the Brazillian side of Iguazu - which is a city that sits at the corners of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. This must be the smallest carousel in the world. It was only about 5 meters long.

The border crossing was one of the easiest yet. We had arranged for a pick up from the hotel and didn't even need to get out of the car. He just took our passports to show them and then we drove through. No one even looked at us. Crazy. So long Brazil and hello Argentina.

We arrive at the gorgeous little boutique hotel called La Canterna Jungle Lodge in time for an afternoon by the pool.

The rabble arriving.

Great walk to our room through the jungle.

Our rooms are also lovely. Quite unique wooden rooms but lovely inside. Funny story when me and Nat arrive at our room. There is a really loud buzzing when we get into our room and we can't seem to find where it's coming from. We search high and low, checking the electricity box and everything. We decide to call reception to complain and change rooms. Only for my Mum to then say "haven't you got an electric toothbrush in your case?"  I hadn't but I did have an electric razor which had turned itself on. Mystery solved. I called back to reception and explained what an idiot I am. Seems like the word idiot transcends languages as she fully agreed!

Quick change and we hit the lovey pool.

After a chill by the pool and a bite to eat followed by a well needed nap in the room, we head into town that evening. Dad and Nige have obviously not coordinated what they are wearing... Or had they???

We eat at a nice restaurant called Te Amart Maitena and have our first experience of that famous Argentinian beef. What a steak it has the three perfect ingredients; 1) it is damn tasty and succulent, 2) it is huge and 3) it is dirt cheap. This steak cost £9. Fantastic value and great value for the meal as a whole it came to £15 each which included three bottles of wine too. I know we are going to love Argentina!

As we leave the restaurant there is a great thunder storm on the horizon that seems to engulf the whole sky as far as we can see. It doesn't take long for the storm to arrive along with the heavy rain.

Luckily we stumble across a fantastic little off license / bar Codigo Cerveza that has one of the most fantastic collections of beer we have seen. We are like kids in a sweet shop deciding which beer to try. We go for the wheat beer starting with the delicious Me echo la Burra Trigo and then the not so nice BarbaRoja trigo. Great to be having different tasting beer though. We have missed it.

Perfect setting watching the lightening having a beer in the pouring rain.

The road turning into a waterfall.

Enjoying the standrd Argentinian beer Quilmes.

Dad ready to find a taxi in the rain.
