It was a very sad morning this morning saying goodbye to the 'rents and Meff's. We have had a fantastic couple of weeks which has included; 3 countries, 5 places, two flights, one coach, two boats (one of the speed variety), a cable car, a buggy, countless private transfers (Tina style), waterfalls, vineyards, carnivals, football matches, tango, drum shows, boozing in streets, foul smelling plazas, two great beaches, booties of all sizes, thunder storms and blazing sunshine, Jesus, so much tat (f@cking pigs), steak and more steak, wine and more wine and belly laughs galore.
Sad farewells although I think we all did very well with the emotions. In the spirit of it always being better to just rip a band aid off a fairly rapid exit definitely helped.
And then there were two again.
It was like a sign once the taxi pulled off as the heavens opened and it doesn't stop torrentially raining for the rest of the day. We attempted to head to a museum but after waiting an hour for a taxi gave up and decided to try to walk. Big mistake, despite having umbrellas from the hotel. We are barely three blocks away and are soaked. The streets have turned into fast flowing rivers that are so wide and deep that we can't even cross in places. God knows how much dog poo is flowing down the streets too!!
Shan't be enjoying the hotel garden today.
One of the smaller road rivers. When we got back it covered the whole yellow zone.
Nat getting frustrated as she hates getting wet so much!
We finally write off heading to the museum and wandering around Palermo and go for a late lunch by the hotel before we have to get our bus to Mendoza at 19:45. We have learnt from our mistake of staying longer in Bangkok after Caroline, Dave and Lynne left which was damn depressing and are leaving BA today.
We have lunch at the lovely Las Cabras and have a hearty meal as not sure we will get the best food on the bus journey later on.
Now on the way back I spot a hairdressers and through the medium of google translate manage to ask the hairdresser to tidy my barnet up a bit as it is fast growing into an unruly mullet.
10 mins later the new me. Not quite as Einstein like now. Nat is a happy girl as she didn't like my long hair. And I am a happy boy as now she has to email Rosie about meeting up for a drink in LA - a deal is a deal afterall. (I can but wish!!).
Now as is it still pouring down and we find out there is also a local bus strike we can't order any taxis so we were a little worried about how to get to the bus station. The hotel was useless in helping us so I end up going to stand in the rain to try and flag one. Luckily it took about 30 seconds as someone got dropped off at the hotel so we decided to bite the bullet and just head to the bus station three hours early. Not ideal but better than missing the bus. Can't believe how lucky we have been with the weather over the past week. I overheard the receptionist saying it has been raining constantly apart from the last few days which have been gorgeous.
Killing time in the bus station with you know what. I have taken back my mothers crown of shit head.
We get on our pimp bus (Andesmar) for our 14 hour over night journey to Mendoza. We paid extra for first class and it's worth the extra money as it has lie flat beds, meals and wine (of course), private entertainment, wifi and even bingo (yes a proper game of bingo!).
Nat testing her sleeping arrangements.
Hoping the food is better than this though. The thinnest sandwich in the world.
We are absolutely knackered after two hectic weeks and lots of late nights and boozing so this bus journey has come at the right time. Tell you tomorrow how comfortable it is sleeping on this thing. Over and out.
Home, safe and sound, Beanies! It was so much easier saying 'goodbye' this time, with the knowledge that you will be back in less than a month. Got to BA airport and the storm began.....it thrashed it down, and the watery, grey skies mirrored our sadness. Lightening struck all over the place, and rain drizzled down the airport windows. 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' crept from my lips!!!
ReplyDeleteYour haircut was lovely, Aaron- really like it!! Enjoy your pimp bus ride to Mendoza- and catch up on sleep.....we well and truly partied over this parents party phase of your travels, didn't we?!!!
Music and laughter still ring in my ears. Thank you for such a fun-filled, loving, relaxing holiday in South Ametrica. You made it special for us all, and I never imagined that I would ever have such a wonderful experience, at my advanced age!!! I will never forget it, or your loving kindness and utmost FUN! I follow the blog, again, now, with renewed enthusiasm!!! Take great care- my live goes with you, Beanies! Grateful Eric xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
So home and in our own bed...like a single compared to what we've been used to in the last two weeks and no air-con....
ReplyDeleteAaron, your description at the beginning of the blog bought home to mum and I how much we did and what we saw. The video we took has some great footage, especially the carnival and Iguazu.
I must thank you both for making it a great holiday for the five cling-ons. Not content with planning your own journey, but you continued to lead us through the sites, sounds and tastes of Rio, Iguazu, Montevideo, Colonia and BA. Not missing a view or an experience, truly amazing.... Thank-you.
Take care on the rest of your trip, we all love you both dearly. Xxxx
