After a nice little lie in this morning and a fairly leisurely Sunday morning we decide to try to hire bikes to take advantage of the huge cycle path they create in Bogota on a Sunday by closing a road that runs through the city. We research some places and book a cab using our great new app - Tappsi which is like Halo in the UK but ensures you get a secure cab. Even the official looking cabs here have a high risk of express kidnappings. Oh and they tend to keep you until past midnight so you can get even more money out of your bank account for them. We are completely safe with this all though.
Anyway, when we get to the bike shop we are unable to hire any bikes so end up walking a good portion of the way. It's like every person in Bogota is out here either cycling, running, skating or walking. They're are juice stalls set up along the way and an all round great atmosphere. Such a great idea.
We walk from quite far north back to the T zone where we were last night. We have a lovely leisurely sunday stroll around stopping off for a beer at the aptly named Beer Station along the way.
We have managed to watch a fair amount of Winter Olympics today which is great as it is on everywhere. We watch the men's ski jumping in the bar and couldn't resist uploading this pic. What a name. Love it that is initial is A too!!
We decide to go to the cinema again today as they have a great cinema around the corner. We see American Hustle which is pretty good. We are trying to watch all the films that are up for awards. After we walk back to our hotel which literally is an old apartment block.
Me in my new jumper. I was looking for this for months in England last year and couldn't find it anywhere. Handy too as it gets chilly here at night. Real this time of course - we are through with north farce.
We go for a beer at Bogota Beer Company just down the road from our hotel. Can't get enough of the Monserrate Roja beer! Delicious and based on a British recipe.
That evening we have dinner at the lovely Wok restaurant which is like a suped up Wagamamas. Great food and a lovey leisurely Sunday in Bogota.
Hello Bogota Beanies! What a lovely place, and how wonderful to shut off a road and make a cycle path HIGHWAY for you! Fabulous way to explore- must have been amazing! Very relieved to hear about your taxi App...take great care my darlings. Some of the skiers do have funny names....your father was in Utrecht last week and was with a guy whose Christian name was Cok...hilarious! He must have wondered why so many people got his business card! Flooding is v bad here....Worcester city centre is affected- the river has spilled right over the main bridge! Had a really lovely w/e in London with Peter and Selena- they send their love, and we talked about your blogs a LOT! Said our sad farewells, in readiness for their departure. Enjoy the lovely life in Bogota, and take very great care! Love you immeasureably, Eric xxxxxxxxxxxx
