Day 33 - Phuket, Thailand

Another day around the pool today. Up and hit the gym first thing. Nat is really going into her weights. I hope she doesn't become Jodie Marsh ;-)

Face timed the little dude in the afternoon to wish him a happy 2nd birthday. The present went down well. His spelling is really coming along too ;-)

 

Having such a nice relaxing time in our hotel. It is such a lovely hotel with a great pool. It's a bit cooler today as well which is nice. 

That evening we decide to head into Patong which is about 45 mins away on the other side of the island as we here it's the happening place on the island. 

Nat being unruly! Not sure what reason she has to be annoyed with me as I am the perfect husband! 

We arrive in Patong after a 20m delay when we had to pull over and let the Kings nephew and his huge motorcade (that even included Ambulance) go past. We finally get to Patong and it is mental. The guide books description of this being "the eye of the tourist storm" and Thailands own "costa del soulless" is pretty spot on. 

I have never seen so many bars and restaurants in my life spread over such a huge area. The place is absolutely heaving and most bars are pumping. This place makes Vegas look like a small village in terms of activity. The Main Street which must easily have 75+ bars on it (and this is just one of many streets) also has a lot of people pestering us for a ping pong re-match. Considering my dismal ability to return a serve we give it a miss. I have made up a song about them though to the tune of Rhianna's 'found love in a hopeless place'. It goes... "We found love in a hopeless place... We found love in a hopeless place. There were Thai boys in disguise... We were standing side by side (at the urinal)" :-)

Even a little side street has about 20 bars in a row. 

We fancied a change from Thai food tonight so opted for a pizza. Found a great little place imaginatively called 'Pizzeria Hut 1'. It is the best stuffed crust pizza we have had in a long time! Food coma soon followed. 

After we have a wander around for an assault on our five senses. And then we found it...

This Hard Rock was absolutely awesome. It had a huge terrace with a live band playing great tunes. Randomly for all the Hard Rocks we have been in that have stages and instruments always lines up on stage this is the first time we have actually seen a band play! Worth the wait. 

They even have fire dancers on in between sets. 

I have decided that I am going to attempt to continue to get a glass from every one I visit. I can't bring myself to leave without one!

Thought we would share a picture to prove that Nat still does wash and blow dry her hair occasionally. 

We could definitely stay longer but our car is picking us up at 11pm and we do have a very early start in the morning. 

PS. Today, after 24 days of waiting, my debit cards finally arrived from the UK today! Nat says she is sick of supporting this family and me sponging off her! ;-) Arrives just in time too before we leave. Thanks to Mum and Dad for helping me deal with the ridiculous NatWest bank!
