Day 4 - Mui Ne, Vietnam

It's going to be a relatively brief and not as exciting update today due to not much action. Rain definitely affecting play.

We arrived in Mui Ne at 9.30pm last night after our 5hr drive. Our hotel called, Mia Resort is gorgeous. Great find and great value.

The journey here was good but slept for a good amount of it. We were expecting to see some country side but it was pretty built up all the way and the roads continued to be full of thousands of motor cycles (apparently there are over 4m in HCMC alone) and the usual random driving patterns you tend to see in these parts of the world such as driving a moped down the wrong way of a 2 lane highway. Didn't see a single road sign along the way either, not one for an exit, distance to next place etc which was rather strange. Glad we didn't decide to drive ourselves!

Once we arrived we dumped our bags and had a quick shower (to get rid of my angel wings from earlier)...

Then had a few drinks at the bar, sat out by the beach with perfect white sand, and palm trees lining it for as far as the eye can see. Bliss. Missed dinner last night as we had a late lunch but had a hearty pot noodle sat on our terrace playing cards with a few beers. Not so rock and roll tonight!

Got up late (missing breakfast - grrrr!) to a very over cast day where the wind was picking up. Great for all the kite surfers doing ridiculous moves in the sea. It didn't take long for the rain to arrive and here it stayed all afternoon.  So what else do us Brits do on a rainy day on holiday?? Go and sit in a bar. So we found a place called Jibes which is a cool
surf dude type place for a few BKI, Larue and Saigon beers. Really nice stuff and at 90p per bottle you can't go wrong.

Jibes bar in the pouring rain...

Back at the hotel me and Dave hit the sea. As it was a stormy day the waves were brilliant. Great fun. Then went for a run down the beach which reminded me within about 4 seconds how ridiculously hard it is to run on sand. Especially after a few beers.

In the evening we head further around the coast to a place called Oliver's for dinner. A nice little Italian. Mui Ne is quite a strange but lovely place, it's one long coastal road with lots of nice resorts one side and run down souvenir shops, spas, dodgy restaurants, hostels and motorcycle hire places on the other.

After dinner we want to a bar called Joe's where all the back packers and gap year students hang out - definitely the oldest in here. Good bar though and great live music with a singer with very weird technique. Sung like a ventriloquist.

Back to the room for cards on the terrace and welcomed to this on our bed... Looks like we are out of luck with the whether this week!

  1. Oh chickens......what a shame about the rain, but what a gorgeous beach! Thank goodness the hotel is lovely. Hope the weather forecast is WRONG......just to make you feel better it's very, very cold here, only a few degrees, frost on the windscreens in the mornings.....very def gloves, scarves and coats weather! Even I was cold at work today......a very rare occurrence! Tight hugs and fondest love, Eric xxxxxxxxx
