Athens and Spetses, Greece - 30th April-8th May 2016

A somewhat shortened blog post here given I am about 3 months behind posting this one!

Needless to say the emphasis will be on pics and good restaurant / bars we went to rather than the detail (which will please most people no doubt!)

As is becoming tradition we start the holiday spending Greek Easter at the house and picking up our lovely goat from the local butchers for dinner tomorrow.

Y'ster preparing the goat for the BBQ.

That evening we head into Agia Paraskevi for a few drinks in a really cool bar what I believe is called Pleei Play CafĂ© Bar. It shuts early though as everyone heads to church tonight for midnight Easter mass.

Midnight mass in the square with the customary candles.

Letting the cooking commence the next morning. Delicious.

Trying to broaden the girls reading habits...

Food ready to tuck into.

Easter feast!

Like brothers.

The next morning we head into town and have an explore around the old gas works just down the road from Monastiriki. They have done a good job of redeveloping this area and turning it into a bit of a nightlife hot spot.

We stop for bite to eat at the wonderful Buthers Shop.

The next day it was time to head to Spetses for our island break. As there was a big strike going on we decided to hire a car and drive to Spetses which was about a 4 hour drive, then a short boat ride across to the island from the mainland.

We got to stop off at the Corinth canal which is pretty impressive.

We arrive at our gorgeous hotel in Spetses called Poseidonion Grand Hotel.

First night we eat at a fantastic restaurant called Tarsanas. The food was phenomenal. Highly recommend this place.

After a leisurely day by the pool night two we head for a few drinks at Cielo Mar which has a big terrace jutting out into the sea with lovely views of the coast and back across to the main land. After a few drinks we head just around the corner to Patralis seafood restaurant and sit on a nice table overlooking the sea.

Bike rides around the island. Great fun but a lot tougher than expected. Especially given all the hills.

Quick stop for a well needed drink.

Absolutely stunning water. What a colour.

Back in the main square.

For our last night we eat at Mourayo restaurant where the service was terrific. After a few bottles of their own wine from their own vineyard of the same name as the restaurant they even give us 4 bottles for free on the house! That will do nicely.

Next morning it is time to head back to Athens but not before stopping off to see a phenomenal Greek amphitheater called   Well worth a visit. The place was spectacular and the acoustics when stood in the middle were outstanding. You could hear even a whisper perfectly from the back row.

Holding court.

Quick stop off for lunch on the way back.

Back at the house.

That evening we head into Athens for a night out and start on the roof top randomly called A is for Athens. Despite its weird name the place has fantastic views over the Acropolis and Athens.

On the final say we head to Porto Rafti for some gorgeous seafood at a restaurant called the Port. Had to wait for our octopus to dry first though...

That evening we head to our favour are haunts around Agia Paraskevi for drinks, namely the lovely Spoon. Cheeky souvlaki on the way home drew a close to another cracking holiday with the family. Until next year!
