Day 11 - Siem Reap, Cambodia

A very well needed rest day today. Got up at 09:50, just in time to grab the dregs of breakfast that finishes at 10am. We all feel a lot better for a good few hours of sleep. Particularly Dave.

Decided to have a day by the pool today. Our hotel, Frangipani Villas is really lovely and has a pool area we really needed today.

Natalia chilling out by the pool.

Me and my Vietnam war book. Randomly just got to the bit where they start bombing Cambodia. Fact of the day. The US dropped a bomb every 30 seconds on Vietnam for three years (it was supposed to last 8 weeks). Crazy the scale and atrocities of this war and that I didn't actully know much about it beyond Forest Gump before arriving. At least I learnt about the Tudors at school though. Obviously far more relevant history!

Our daily dose of shit head. We are addicted to this game. Wonder if it actually has a proper name?

Then it was time for our double 90 min massage. This was quite a different massage to ones previously. My masseuse got me (the most inflexible person in the world), in positions usually reserved for Olympic gymnasts. She had to keep on sitting on my back to get enough weight behind her though. Nat had similar treatment.

Had to wear some crazy pyjamas though

Bit of face time by the pool with Hayley, Jacob and Mum post massage was very good.

Nat's nemesis. To add perspective this is about half the size of my hand.

Not so many bugs tonight though although it is still stiflingly hot. Probably the hottest place I have been at night. It just doesn't let up and absolutely no breeze to alleviate out sweat patches!

Spot the lizards. They are also everywhere (including one in our room tonight which I refuse to try and catch despite Nat's plea. I'd be there until morning trying!!). There are three lizards in this pic. Plus something that looks like a huge spider but I assure you it isn't!! Where's Walley time...

That night we head to a gorgeous restaurant called Sugar Palm.

Tuk tuk races on the way there.

We lost!

Despite a high speed attempt to overtake (when I say high speed I mean hitting a whopping 20mph)

Had a gorgeous dinner. I had the Khumer Curry, a local speciality and Nat had a Prawn Amok. Another local dish. Delicious. More expensive here as it is tourist central but still great value.

After dinner we head to the infamous "pub street" to show Dave the delights having missed it last night. Dave is back in the game today and feeling a lot better (Great bouncebackability). One legged Lynne contemplating riding there

On pub street we actually managed to find a nice bar overlooking it with a live band that were pretty good. Still can't quite get our heads round this place though.

More wiring jobs for Yiannis.

The band

And best of all, on the way home we manage to find the best Tuk Tuk in all of Cambodia.

Check out the name.

5am start tomorrow for sunrise at Angkor Wat. Can't wait.
