Bali Aug 2014 - Day 8

Just the typical morning this morning. Up at 10am, breakfast for 10:30am. Order my English breakfast tea and steak and eggs. Hear a child spluttering in the pool. Notice that a child is drowning. 55 year old man on table next to us (nearest the pool) gallantly jumps in, fully clothed, to save her. Hero Dad nearly lands on girls head when he jumps in, leading Nat and I to think that he's possibly just finished the little girl off, contributing towards her premature death. He scoops her out and delivers her to her somewhat nonchalant Japanese Father and Mother who then sit down on the next table, seemingly unresponsive. To add insult to injury the Father actually has swimming trunks on so a smack in the face to hero Dad who jumped in fully clothed. Furthermore, the parents then just make a nod of appreciation and don't even thank the poor guy. Just as he sits back down, completely drenched, his breakfast arrives. Me and Nat trying very hard not to laugh!!

The crime scene...

After that excitement things calmed down somewhat. Then back to formality: Lounger, reading, pool, lounger, sea... You get the picture.

It's the clearest day we have had today so it is looking very promising for our first proper sunset. Surely we must get at least one in 9 days!

Looking very promising with an hour to go...

Still looking good.

We decide to take full advantage and order a couple of Bali Hai beers instead of going to the gym. Afterall, we have plenty of running machines at home!

Perfect red sky.

The beach looks really busy further down, something we haven't noticed before so we decide to get our stuff and have a walk down the beach to see what is going on.

View of our hotel from the beach.

The posh quarters with their private pool.

After a 5 min walk down the beach we find a row of fantastic, lively bars with bean bags outside so you can sit back and watch the sunset. Such a great atmosphere and amazing scenary across the sky and water after the sun has gone down.

Paradise.

These bean bags are so comfortable.

A view you never tire of...

The bar...

After a couple of beers it gets dark so we head back to change and head out. We have booked a table at Cafe Warisan today for dinner but when we get there, lovely as it is, it is empty, a little bit devoid of atmosphere and far too 'romantic' for our tastes. We end up having a drink before moving on. Luckily nice restaurants are not in short supply so we just go to the next one on our list!

The next one is called Vin+ which as you can guess from the name specialises in gorgeous wine. We have gorgeous spring rolls and scallop dumplings to start followed by king prawns for Nat and seared tuna for me. We then topped it off with a very tasty cheese board to go with our 2007 Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon. Perfection.

Very true message on the bottom off the bill (don't let the seven figure total fool you - this came to an amazing £60 - ridiculous value here when it comes to food and drink. This meal would have easily been £160 in London).

One of the coolest tables we have ever seen. Oh to have dining room (let alone one big enough!)

The gorgeous wine shop.  Very healthy wine collection.

Astonishingly we keep seeing Trivento wine everywhere here which is one of the wineries we visited in Mendoza in Argentina. Really surprised to see them exporting so heavily to Indonesia.

The restaurant setting is out of this world. Like you are in huge bamboo tent. Really stylish and well designed.

After dinner we call it a night. Nat still feeling a little fragile from last night. Still at least she shouldn't be sick tonight!
