Day 70 - Lima, Peru

A pretty low key and lazy Saturday today. We get up and are greeted to some crazy fog that Lima is famous for. It rolls in off the sea through the streets. It's like some eerie cloud monster attacking the city - you can literally touch it as it rolls past then it is a perfect blue sky again. It also only concentrates up to ten blocks back from the coast, after which it is a glorious day again. Very strange.

There should be two huge buildings here.

We can only just make out the sea.

We attempt to hire bikes but cannot find anywhere to hire them from so end up having a walk along the coast from Miraflores to Barranco which is another one of the "cool" areas in Lima.

It's a lovey walk along the cliff tops past some very luxurious condos overlooking the sea (well usually!).  Lima is actually fairly wealthy. There are some really nice areas particularly in Miraflores and Barranco.

Vultures on the church roof.

Nice little street in Barranco.

After we head back to the room for a chill out. Great to see they have some quality sporting entertainment on the TV here. The mighty Sky Blues on the box!! Nothing to do with who they are playing at all.

Our cool lobby.

After attempting to go to Golds Gym again and it being closed on a Saturday afternoon I go for run in our little hotel gym as don think we will be getting much exercise in the ridiculous heat of the amazon. That evening we head out to see what Barranco has to offer.

We find a cool little ceiviche restaurant called Canta Rana with flags and football memorabilia everywhere plus a random signed poster of Paul McCartney addressed to the owner!

Massive pile of fish. Delicious.

Unfortunately we are a little early to see the place really liven up despite finishing our dinner at about 10pm. The 'Limans' don't get going until gone midnight. So we decide to retire as have a flight to the jungle tomorrow.

Some very last minute admin before bed after reading lots of reviews for the hotel we are booked into in Iquitos and it being absolutely awful (dirty, rubbish breakfast, no air con, cockroaches and most shockingly painfully slow wifi). We can handle cockroaches but draw the line at slow wifi! ;-) Luckily we manage to cancel and find somewhere else although the options are extremely limited in Iquitos.  We need to quickly reset expectations about our expected comfort levels for the next five days. It is the jungle after all!!

Thinking that we may not get regular blogs now that you're heading out to the jungle....hope flight was good, and that replacement hotel is OK.
